Louis XIV is said to have had a strong body odor due to his aversion to bathing. During his time, it was believed that water could carry diseases, so he only bathed a few times in his life. Additionally, the heavy use of perfumes and powders to mask body odor was common in the royal court, which may have contributed to the perception of his stench. This lack of personal hygiene was likely a result of the prevailing beliefs and practices of the time, rather than a personal choice. **

Louis XIV is often considered an absolute monarch rather than a dictator. While he held absolute power over France and its people, he did so within the framework of the existing social and political structures of the time. He centralized power in the monarchy and exerted control over the nobility, but he also worked to maintain the stability and prosperity of the country. However, his rule was characterized by a strong centralization of power and a cult of personality, which some may argue exhibits dictatorial tendencies. Ultimately, whether Louis XIV was a dictator depends on one's interpretation of his rule and the definition of dictatorship. **
