Toyota Motor Europe

Based in Belgium, Toyota Motor Europe (TME) is the European General Headquarter of the Japanese group, Toyota Motor Corporation, one of the leading vehicle manufacturers on the international market. Toyota first began selling cars in Europe under an official distributor agreement in 1963. Since then, the company has matured into the leading Japanese car manufacturer in this highly competitive market. Toyota has invested over €6 billion throughout Europe since 1990, and currently employs over 55,000 people, both directly and through retailer channels. Toyota’s operations in Europe are supported by a network of 28 National Marketing and Sales Companies in 48 countries, a total of 3,000 sales outlets, and eight manufacturing plants, with a ninth under construction in Russia. As an important player in Europe, Toyota continue to grow, both geographically and in terms of market share – with the goal of putting its customers first.     “As a major vehicle manufacturer, Toyota has a clear responsibility in the area of road safety. In working to reduce traffic accidents, injuries and fatalities, Toyota cannot limit itself to the development of new technologies making vehicles safer to drive. Genuine sustainable mobility also requires the company’s active participation in a wide variety of road safety initiatives conducted in collaboration with other stakeholders. Toyota believes that all stakeholders in the road safety equation have a shared responsibility for reducing the frequency of road accidents. There are three main factors in that equation: vehicles, the people who drive them, and the traffic environment. Each affects safety in different ways under different circumstances. While Toyota has devoted tremendous resources to improving its safety technologies, the company recognises that complete safety cannot be achieved solely by improving vehicles; it also requires safer roads and teaching people how to drive more safely on them. Toyota Motor Europe is a signatory of the European Road Safety Charter.
