Swedish National Road Administration (SRA)

The Swedish Road Administration is the national authority assigned the overall responsibility for the entire road transport system. Our task is to co-operate with others to develop an efficient road transport system in the directionstipulated by the Swedish Government and Parliament. We have been commissioned to create a safe, environmentally sound and gender-equal road transport system that contributes to regional development and offers individuals and the business community easy accessibility and high transport quality. Sweden’s long-term road safety goal is that there should be no fatalities or serious injuries in road traffic. This goal was ratified by the Swedish Parliament in 1997 and is based on the "Vision Zero" programme. Sweden is already among those countries with the lowest number of traffic fatalities in relation to its population. This is not enough, however. Swedish road safety work is based on a refusal to accept human death or lifelong suffering as a result of road traffic.
