Norwegian National Centre on Emergency Communication in Health

The objective of the centre is to act as advisor to government, both centrally and locally (counties and municipalities) on the running of dispatch centres in the health care services. The centre is also a member of the national project committee concerning possible Norwegian acceptance of TETRA as the national standard for radio communication in emergency services. Kokom was established in 1997 by the Ministry of Social security and Health in Norway. The funding is through the national budget. The staff consists of one director (medical doctor), one nurse consultant, one chief engineer, one informationcoordinator (60%) and one secretary. In order to meet its objective, the centre needs to be well informed on developments in the field, be they in the sphere of technology or in the various health sciences. This can only be achieved through active participation in development work in Norway, and through communication with researchers and service providers elsewhere.
