Hyundai Motor Europe Technical Center GmbH (HMETC), situated in Rüsselsheim Germany is the European R&D and Design centre for the Hyundai KIA Motor Group (Hyundai Motor Company and KIA Motor Company).

Europe is one of the most important markets for Hyundai / KIA and with the European R&D and Design centre Hyundai reacts directly and efficiently to European customer needs and the requirements of European bodies. One of the main European vehicle development activities is vehicle safety. Various regulations and activities have improved the vehicle safety during last three decades and all stakeholders agree that further improvements in road safety will only be possible by using intelligent road safety technologies which affects in equal measures the vehicles, the infrastructure and the road users.

In 2007, HMETC started to play an active role for developing and promoting of these intelligent road safety technologies. As member of eSafetyAware! HMETC is campaigning together with public organisations, suppliers and other vehicle manufacturers to reduce the number of accidents, to reduce injuries and fatalities on European roads.
