Why is eSafety important?
Road safety has gradually increased in the EU as systems such as airbags, seatbelts and ABS brakes have become more and more advanced and effective.
However, despite important improvements, each year more than 40 000 people die and 1.7 million are injured on Europe’s roads. In 2001, the European Union therefore set a target of halving the number of road deaths by 2010. To achieve this ambitious goal, ensuring optimal protection in the event of a crash is not enough. More has to be done to prevent the accident from occurring in the first place. This is where intelligent vehicle safety systems, so called eSafety systems, can make a huge contribution.
Why is our work important?
eSafety systems have been on the market for several years and are increasingly expected to provide a major contribution to the reduction of casualties on the roads. eSafety equipment in new vehicles varies across car models, car brands and even from country to country. This is why it is important for consumers to be informed about these life saving technologies and to ask for eSafety when buying a new car.
